Lightly browned Chocolate Chip Scones

Ingredients

  • 3 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (go ahead and use dark if you feel like it)
  • 2 cups cold heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Extra granulated sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Once combined, mix in the chocolate chips.
  3. Using a wooden spoon, stir the heavy cream into the flour mixture just until combined.
  4. Turn the mixture out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 3 minutes until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two equal balls and gently press each ball into an 8-inch circle.
  6. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each circle into 8 triangles as you would cut a pizza.
  7. Gently lift each triangle and place about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  8. Brush each triangle with melted butter and sprinkle lightly with sugar.
  9. Bake for 20–24 minutes or until the triangles just start to brown.
