There is a lot of self-improvement books, articles, courses and gurus out in the world today. This is because a lot of people have the desire to improve and figure out to better themselves. This can be anything from improving their health to improving their financial situation.

This, for the most part, is good. However, the problem arises when we get caught up in consuming as much knowledge as we can that we forget to actually put any of it into action. In a lot of ways, knowledge without action is meaningless. What’s the point in taking the time to learn how to change a tire if you don’t even own a car? You won’t be able to put that knowledge to action.

Self-improvement is definitely something I struggle with as do many other people. I am definitely that person who tries to consume as much self-improvement knowledge as I possibly can. For me, this was overwhelming as I had no idea how to implement the hundreds of tips that I was reading and learning, and, as I said before, knowledge without action is meaningless.

That was until I discovered one simple tip that was too easy and simple to take action on that I couldn’t say no.

If something you need to do will take you less than 60 seconds, do it now.

This can be applied to any facet of your life. For me, putting my plate in the dishwasher takes less than 60 seconds, responding to a yes/no email from a coworker takes less than 60 seconds, and taking out the garbage takes less than 60 seconds.

Doing these miniscule tasks has tremendous power. For me, I get a great sense of accomplishment as I can point to things that I am physically accomplishing that don’t take a tremendous amount of effort to do.

On top of that, accomplishing these tasks helps declutter both of my physical and mental spaces. Ticking off these tasks helps me reduce stress and take a lot of mental weight off of my shoulders. This, in turn, allows me to increase and focus more of my physical and mental power on the tasks that are truly important and mean a lot to me.

For myself and many others, a decluttered physical space can help people feel more positive and be more productive. Maybe this is why parents always tell their children to clean their room ….

Jokes aside, I believe there is truth to this. Whenever I clean my office or the kitchen I always feel accomplished and can feel the mental weight lift off my conscience leaving me in a more relaxed and focused mental state.

What is great about this self-improvement tip is that it is so easy to get started. You can start right now and you’ll be on your way in 60 seconds.
